Pan’s Labyrinth

Rated 4.0

Director Guillermo Del Toro (Hellboy) brings a mighty strange and mighty enchanting fable to the screen with this dark fairy tale about a girl dealing with family troubles during the Spanish Civil War. The real world and supernatural blend together nicely, something Del Toro is quite the expert at. The visuals are outstanding, especially in a sequence where a monster guy with flesh hanging off of his bones puts an eye in his hand. OK, I know that sounds confusing, but it is very cool to see. A gloomy movie. Some of the marketing makes it look alright for kids. Trust me, it’s not. This is adult fare all the way. My pick for best foreign film of 2006.
