Easy A
This mishmash of elements from John Hughes films, Clueless, Risky Business and (ugh!) Can’t Buy Me Love is an amusing enough vehicle, thanks mostly to an endearing lead performance by Emma Stone. She plays Olive, a high school student who pretends to sleep with a friend to get bullies off his back. This results in her becoming the number one gossip topic. When other male students come searching for staged help, she starts charging them for her fake service, and things get a little complicated. Not a movie you want your kids copying, for sure, but funny thanks to Stone’s comic timing and good work from supporting players, including Thomas Hayden Church as a quirky teacher and Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson as Olive’s somewhat strange parents.
