Democrats sue

At a time when legislative leaders of the political parties are saying publicly that they want to avoid the friction of previous legislatures and work together, the message was undercut last week when several leading Democratic lawyers sued to overturn a legislative reapportionment plan that has not yet even been drafted, let alone enacted.

The suit was filed in order to have an earlier place in line at the courthouse if it is needed later in the legislative session.

In 2001’s redistricting, most of the rules were followed at the Nevada Legislature, but in 1991 majority Democrats in the Senate announced and adopted a plan on the same day, giving neither the public nor Senate Republicans time to study the proposal.
