Confidence
A decent addition to the tired genre of con man movies. Edward Burns delivers one of his best performances yet as a grifter with a flair for elaborate scams. When his crew inadvertently rips off a crime kingpin (an extremely sleazy Dustin Hoffman), he and his cohorts are forced to pull off the con of a lifetime. The film does a good job concealing its eventual conclusion, and exceptional acting from Burns, Hoffman and the great Paul Giamatti keep things humming. Hoffman hasn’t been this disgusting since
Midnight Cowboy’s Ratso Rizzo. Burns hasn’t been this good since
Saving Private Ryan.
