Poor Chow Yun Fat. An international superstar with the likes of
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and
Hard Boiled, he continues in his struggle for a good American-made movie with this intensely bad martial arts/buddy comedy. Co-starring alongside Seann William Scott (Stifler from the
American Pie movies), Fat seems lost as Monk With No Name, a martial arts hero who can defy gravity and deliver crap one-liners. The film shamelessly rips off
Rush Hour,
The Matrix and even
American Pie,
with a stupid pee joke. The special effects are distressingly sub-par. Fat is rumored to be working with John Woo on his next project, so that’s encouraging. As for Scott, he only achieves mild success in his first foray into action superstardom. He will be seen next in
American Pie 3, where he’ll probably get bathed in another disgusting bodily fluid.
