Bend it Like Beckham
Yet another wedding movie. Parminder K. Nagra stars as a young Indian woman living in England, making a name for herself in a women’s soccer league. Had the movie just been about that, it might’ve been tolerable. Unfortunately, her sister’s wedding is coming up, so lots of cuddly, stereotypical humor about Indian culture becomes a prerequisite. Nagra and costar Keira Knightly shine, but the film plays like a hybrid rip-off of Monsoon Wedding and My Big Fat Greek Wedding. Sweet in nature but intolerable in pitch.
House of 1000 Corpses has more in common with the early ’90s film Nothing but Trouble than old-school horror films.
