Art vs. nukes

As diverse as the art and entertainment will be at the Zephyr Lounge June 22, the artists all have one thing in common: They want to stop nuclear waste from being stored at Yucca Mountain in southern Nevada. To this end, a fund-raiser titled “Expose Yourself to Art—Not Nuclear Waste” will be held for the state of Nevada’s Nuclear Waste Project Office. The event begins at 5 p.m. at the Zephyr, 1074 S. Virginia St., and will include a fashion show by designer Roxanne Jitomer, live entertainment, a full menu, guest speakers and auctions of jewelry and art, such as Dave Burdick’s “Who Needs Planes Anyway?” (pictured) and works by Greg Allen, Andrew Waage, David Dory, Brian Bird and others. Donations will also be accepted at the door. For details, call 324-9853 or visit the NWPO’s Web site at www.state.nv.us/nucwaste.
