Husband arrested after wife was transported to hospital with second-degree burns

A domestic dispute in the Avenues turned violent Friday evening (July 13) when a man reportedly doused his wife with gasoline and set her on fire.

According to a Chico Police Department press release, the incident took place in the 2000 block of Laburnum Avenue. By the time officers arrived, the suspect, Steve Ramirez, 36, was gone.

They arrested him the next morning.

The victim, who has not been named, suffered second-degree burns to her chest and arms and was transported to UC Davis for treatment. The couple were arguing when she was allegedly attacked.

Detective Mark Bass told the CN&R the victim was released two days ago with no internal injuries. Ramirez was booked at the Butte County Jail on numerous charges.
