County officials go door-to-door to explain local medi-pot law

On Wednesday (Feb. 25), Butte County code enforcement officers and sheriff’s deputies began going door-to-door in the Thermalito area to spread the word about the county’s recently adopted and beefed-up medical marijuana law.

In a press release, the county said the idea is to encourage residents to learn the facts about the new restrictions, and “meeting with residents is one way to help inform the public.” Those interested can follow the visits and ask questions on Twitter: @CountyofButte and hashtag #stayinthebox.

The new law was created last November with the passage of Measure A, which greatly restricts pot growing in the unincorporated areas of the county. As a result, the county has launched a campaign called Stay in the Box to help educate residents of the new restrictions. Enforcement will step up at the end of the month when six new code enforcement officers complete their training. Confused pot growers can visit www.ButteCounty.net/StayintheBox for a full explanation.
