Thanks from the sales guy

The CN&R’s sales manager chimes in on Thanksgiving

The CN&R’s sales manager, Alec Binyon, recently sent out the following message to the newspaper’s Facebook fans. The rest of us liked it so much we decided to share it with all of our readers.

One of our favorite holidays is here, a time to get together with family and friends, cook all day, figure out how to use persimmons, drink a little too much in the afternoon and reflect on what we’re thankful for.

At the CN&R we’re thankful that we have this opportunity to come to work and do our best to tell Chico’s stories. We’re thankful that we get to work with small-business owners every day. We’re thankful that 38,000 papers are picked up every week.

Most of all, we’re thankful for our readers. Readers: the constant topic in the newsroom and the advertising department. What do our readers need to know? How can we make our calendar better for our readers? What would our readers want to know about this new business?

Without readers, this whole indy-newspaper thing would not work and we wouldn’t have these jobs we like. We would be left to grovel for work at (gasp) big media … or, more likely, we’d all go live on an organic farm together and publish really good newsletters with a hand press.

So we thank you for letting us do this work. Thank you for voting for independent media every time you pick up a CN&R. Thank you to our readers and our advertisers for keeping independent, community journalism alive and well.
