Butte College names interim president to replace outgoing Kimberly Perry

Longtime Butte College instructor and administrator Samia Yaqub will serve as interim president in place of outgoing President Kimberly Perry, who is taking the top job at Bellingham Technical College in Bellingham, Wash.

Yaqub (pictured) received her doctorate in education from Oregon State University and holds a master’s degree in English from Chico State and a bachelor’s degree in English from UC Davis, according to a press release from Butte College. Highlights of her experience at Butte College include serving as an instructor for developmental reading, writing and English as a second language from 1989 to 2001. Since 2011, she has been the campus’ vice president for Student Learning and Economic Development.

“We’re very fortunate to have her leadership among us during this transitional time,” said Fred Perez, president of the Butte College board of trustees, in the statement.

Yaqub’s appointment begins on July 1.
