There are an estimated 30,114 houses in the greater Chico area, with 24,352 of those inside the city limits. Though the city was incorporated in 1872, its housing stock is relatively new—a majority of the homes were built after 1970. One word of caution: The ages of individual homes are based on information given by the occupant during the 2000 Housing Office Census. The occupants may have been renters giving their best guesses.
