The Butte Humane Society has made it into the top 20 in Zootoo.com’s Shelter Makeover Contest. In this second phase of the contest, each finalist is being visited by a film crew from USA Today Live. Tuesday (March 24), shelter Executive Director Heather Schoeppach showed the crew around the Fair Street facility (pictured).

On April 5, officials from the pet-lover’s Web site are scheduled to tour the shelter. Just two days later, in Las Vegas, Zootoo will announce the top 10. Then, there will be a public voting period before announcement of the million-dollar winner. Runners-up also get monetary prizes.

“So many shelters in the nation want and need to win this, but the one thing they don’t have is Chico,” Schoeppach wrote in an e-mail press release. Community support is a big factor in the judging—and the community is invited to the shelter during Zootoo’s tour. Check the shelter’s Web site at www.buttehumane.org for more information.
