Pat Metheny

One Quiet Night

Fifteen-time Grammy winner and one of the “big three” of current jazz guitarists (John Scofield and Bill Frisell being the other two), Pat Metheny gets simple (compared to a lot of his other work) and solo on this disk. Recorded in his home studio with one guitar (a baritone with a special low Nashville tuning) and one microphone, One Quiet Night is contemplative and lovely. Metheny covers the Norah Jones hit “Don’t Know Why,” capturing the beauty of the piece while adding his own twist to it. “Ferry ’Cross the Mersey” of Gerry and the Pacemakers fame likewise gets a beautiful, fresh treatment in Metheny’s hands. A combination of covers and originals, One Quiet Night is a harmonically rich, peaceful offering from one of guitar’s finest.
