Three huge nurses’ unions join forces

Leaders of three major nursing organizations voted last week to join together—to form the largest RN union and professional association in the United States.

The California Nurses Association/National Nurses Organization, United American Nurses and Massachusetts Nurses Association will form a new 150,000-strong National Nurses United. The group will hold its first convention in December.

The decision will affect nurses at both Enloe Medical Center and Oroville Hospital.

“I don’t think we can afford to let this moment pass us by,” United American Nurses Secretary-Treasurer Jean Ross said in a statement.

The goal of the merger is to improve communication among nursing communities and provide one “unshakeable force” in the nursing and health-care industries.
