MAKE ROOM FOR THE HOUSES Tree arborist Scot Wineland examines the remains of a 230-year-old valley oak recently cut down as part of developer Andy Meghdadi’s Terra Bella housing project. Wineland says it is difficult to place a value on the trees. "They provide living space for quail and wild turkeys, which makes them priceless," he said. Still, there is a formula for setting value and he estimates the larger oaks are worth $80,000 to $90,000 each, the smaller ones are worth $30,000 to $35,000.
