HOUSE PARTY

All afternoon on Sunday, Dec. 14, citizens visited the new Esplanade House transitional shelter for homeless families. The open house showed off the still-under-construction facility on Shasta Avenue off The Esplanade, which is expected to open in February and provide transitional housing for 24 families, along with reduced-cost apartments for about 40 families in "phase two." There’s also an administrative office and child care facility. Currently 12 families reside in the charity’s converted motel on The Esplanade. Director Mickey Taylor (pictured) said that even some of the people who initially opposed the construction have changed their minds upon seeing it. "It’s just wonderful to have this," Taylor said.
