Greebo

Greebo plays Woodstock’s every Thursday night.

This debut CD from Chico bluegrass band Greebo starts with a bang, covering David Grisman’s “Hot Club Swing.” With that same song’s fantastic fiddle-ending by fiddle master John Weed, you are led to expect a great ride. And you won’t be disappointed. For those of you who can’t get enough of singer/guitarist/ dobro player Bruce MacMillan’s lovely high voice, he gives you a little extra in his treatment of the traditional “Shenandoah” by singing harmony with himself. Michael Ansolabehere proves himself worthy as a songwriter, as well as a fine mandolinist. His “Noche Clara” and “Perdido Entre Sueños” are lovely, as is upright bassist Nate LaFranchi’s uncomplicated and effective solo on the former. Guest percussionist Jeff Forehan’s bongos on “Noche Clara” are a nice addition, as is the work of guest flutist Sarah Nutting on “Perdido Entre Sueños.”
