Grand-theft déjà vu

Fresh out of jail, convicted car thief steals another car

A local man recently released from jail for vehicle theft was arrested again after allegedly leading police on a high-speed chase in a stolen car.

Just after 6 a.m. on Dec. 28, police received a report of a gray Volkswagen Jetta stolen from the owner’s Banning Park Drive home as it warmed up unattended, according to a Chico Police Department press release. About 10 minutes later, a police officer spotted a gray Jetta and a red Mustang—suspected to be involved in the theft—on Humboldt Road; the driver of the Jetta took off immediately and sped past the police station on Humboldt Road at about 80 mph.

Eventually, the suspect stopped the car in a dead end near East Eighth Street and Highway 99 and ran away. Minutes later, Logan Thomas Bandy, 20, was found hiding in a backyard and, upon arrest, told police he had just been released from jail for a prior vehicle theft and was on probation.
