Fidel ends his fast

Fidel Molina has started eating again. He ended his three-week hunger strike in City Plaza last Friday (Aug. 3), after officials at the state Attorney General’s Office agreed to view the videotape of a 2000 altercation outside Gold Country Casino during which, Molina charged, two sheriff’s deputies used excessive force while arresting his stepson, Andy Fulton Jr.

Molina’s case had been picked up by the Chico Peace and Justice Center, which took a videotape of the incident to Sacramento. The state prosecutors decided, after watching the tape, that the arrest had been legally made and that Molina had no grounds for his various charges against Butte County District Attorney Mike Ramsey.

Molina apologized for backing out of his fast. “If they’re not going to really take a look at this, what’s the use?” he told the Chico Enterprise-Record.
