When it comes to health, we often find ourselves at the mercy of others. We need a doctor to diagnose our ailments. We need a pharmacist to ease our symptoms. We need an insurance company—or a lawyer—to make sure our medical bills get paid.

Some of this is unavoidable.

Some is preventable.

We can eat better. We can exercise. We can meditate.

We can take control of our personal health.

The government isn’t convinced we can. California legislators are considering a ban on trans fats—policing the content of our french fries and apple pies.
