Celebrating Eid

Muslims flock to Chico Islamic Center

A group of kids celebrate outside the Chico Islamic Center on Tuesday (Nov. 16) for Eid al-Adha, the Muslim “Festival of Sacrifice.” The center was filled to the brim with well-dressed men, women and children who came to pray and celebrate with good food and friends. Local activist Ali Sarsour, who grew up in Palestine and now calls Chico home, joined the children outside following the prayer. Eid al-Adha is an important holiday for Muslims that lasts three days and commemorates Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son to God, as told in the Quran. It follows the annual Hajj, or pilgrimage to Mecca.
