Bye bye, Wei

Chico State provost steps down after two years on the job

After two short years as provost and vice president of Academic Affairs at Chico State, Belle Wei has announced a decision to leave her post. Wei (pictured), whose background is in engineering, cited “family and health reasons” for her departure in an email to colleagues sent Sept. 11, just three weeks into the fall semester.

“I plan to return to the Silicon Valley to continue to work in the areas of sustainability, STEM education, diversity and women’s leadership, and innovative and green engineering,” she wrote.

Chico State President Paul Zingg responded in an email to the entire campus community, touting Wei’s accomplishments—particularly in the university’s graduation rate and enrollment of minority students.

A farewell reception for Wei will be held Monday (Sept. 22) from 3-5 p.m. in Colusa 100.
