New leadership at Enloe

Matt Jackson replaces Darby Makel as chairman of the board

As of Jan. 1, Enloe Medical Center’s 16-member Board of Trustees has a new chairman, Matthews Jackson Sr. (pictured), who goes by “Matt” and is widely known as a longtime Butte College vice president and assistant superintendent, now retired. He owns MJ Management Solutions, a consulting firm. Jackson, who joined the board in 2007, replaces Darby Makel.

In a press release, Judy Sitton, vice chairwoman of the board, praised Makel for his leadership during a tumultuous period in the hospital’s history. She called him “a world-class leader.”

In other board news, Dr. Attila Kasza, an Enloe hospitalist certified in internal medicine, joined the board as an ex-officio member due to his recent selection as medical chief of staff-elect (a position he’ll hold for a year), while Dr. Forrest Olson, a hospitalist and family-practice physician, became chief of staff, replacing Dr. John Howard, who has completed his board appointment.

Also new to the board is pharmacist Steve Schaefer, of Chico, who will serve as an ex-officio member due to his position as chairman of the Enloe Foundation Board of Directors.
