The Reid Gardner power plant in southern Nevada emits more of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide than any other power plant in the United States, according to the Environmental Integrity Project in Washington, D.C.

EIP Director Eric Schaeffer called carbon dioxide “the primary global warming pollutant.”

Plants were ranked for carbon dioxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide and mercury. The Nevada Power Company facility in Moapa achieved its status with an emission rate of more than 3,500 pounds per megawatt-hour.
