The next contest

The Reno Gazette-Journal this week editorialized that local residents missed an opportunity to stuff the computer ballot box for Lake Tahoe in the recent selection of the seven modern wonders of the world. “Unfortunately, we let the chance slip away,” the editorial read.

Actually, the lake was ineligible for the list, which is for structures that are “human built and in an acceptable state of preservation,” according to New7Wonders, the group that held the worldwide balloting over the last 18 months.

However, for those who want to make the project all about tourism, New7Wonders now plans a similar ballot to select the seven natural wonders of the world. Go to www.natural7wonders.com for information.
