The Lincoln Lawyer

Rated 3.0

I’ve had it up to here—I’m holding my hand just slightly over the top of my head—with lawyer movies, but this one isn’t bad at all. Matthew McConaughey plays Mick Haller, a slick and greasy lawyer who takes on the case of a rich boy (Ryan Phillippe) who is accused of beating up a prostitute. By the time things go to trial, some major developments involving his client’s innocence have come into play, and Mick finds himself in some rather precarious positions. McConaughey is good here, as is Marisa Tomei as his sometime love interest and frequent court opposition. Phillippe kind of drags the movie down when he’s onscreen, but this is mostly the McConaughey show, and he’s in good form this time out.
