Start rollin’

Rest assured all you RN&R readers who have been calling our office and e-mailing us about the Rollin’ on the River summer concert series: Your wait has come to an end. The Friday evening concerts start this week with a show by Tony Furtado and The American Gypsies. Furtado, a banjo and slide-guitar master, and his band mesh acoustic music with rock, Delta blues, celtic, cajun and jazz. The show starts at 7 p.m. June 27. The series takes a break July 4 but returns the following week with a concert by blues harmonica player Mark Hummel, considered to be one of the best in the biz. Hummel’s show starts at 6 p.m. July 11. Contemporary blues guitarist Coco Montoya hits the stage 7 p.m. July 18. Finally, Bay Area band Tempest closes the Rollin’ on the River series with their folk-rock blend of celtic, Norwegian and other world music elements. This concert also kicks off Reno’s Celtic New Year Celebration. The music starts at 7 p.m. July 25. All shows are free and take place at Wingfield Park Amphitheater at the corner of First Street and Arlington Avenue. Call 324-4440 ext. 3523 or visit www.newsreview.com for details.
