Nose to the wheel
Cycling enthusiasts and casual sports fans should head downtown this Saturday, June 14, for the 11th Annual Tour de Nez Cycling Criterium. Professional and amateur cyclists will be able to speed through the streets of downtown Reno on a 1.1 mile course. The cycling event, which ties in with the anniversary celebration of local coffeehouse Deux Gros Nez, includes a masters-level race and a professional race. And it wouldn’t be the Tour de Nez without the party, which features nose-casting (in honor of the cafe’s name which translates to “two big noses”), belly dancers and music by Jibe and the Brian Landrus Project. This year, the party will be at Wingfield Park instead of Deux Gros Nez’s parking lot. Tim Healion, owner of the popular Reno hangout, says the event has grown so large that the move was necessary. The masters race begins at 3:30 p.m. followed by the pro race at 6:10 p.m. The finish/start line is at Arlington Avenue next to Wingfield Park. Awards will be given at 7:35 p.m. Call 378-1286 or visit www.tourdenez.com.
