Public v. private salaries

Three employee groups representing police, teachers, and firefighters ran full page ads in Las Vegas last weekend comparing private and public sector salaries, in response to GOP claims that public employees are better off than private sector employees.

Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce president Kara Kelley earns $273,883 a year compared to Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie’s $147,971. Others salary comparisons were given, down to the level of the Las Vegas Chamber’s salesperson Jackie Chambers, who earns $104,571, more than twice that paid to a 20-year Clark County teacher—$49,000.
