Play it again
Dust off your old dented trumpet or violin with the cracked neck, and donate it to local students who want to play an instrument but can’t afford it. The University of Nevada, Reno’s School of the Arts and the For the Love of Jazz Society are “recycling” instruments through its donation program. So far, they’ve collected around 150 instruments, but more are needed.
“Many of our students who are interested in music cannot afford to purchase their own instruments, and the district does not have sufficient funds or instruments for everyone who wants to play in band and orchestra,” said David Branson, Washoe County School District music supervisor, in a prepared statement.
The district has a repair shop to restore instruments, so don’t be shy about donating instruments that are less than perfect.
