Knocked Up

Rated 5.0

Writer-director Judd Apatow follows up his The 40 Year Old Virgin with a brutally honest and consistently hilarious comedy in Knocked Up. It’s easily the funniest film of the year so far and also one of the sweetest. Seth Rogan steps up to the plate as a leading man playing Ben Stone, a pot-smoking, lazy ass who winds up having a great night with up and coming television reporter Alison (Katherine Heigl). Alison winds up pregnant and gives slob Ben the chance to prove himself as a potential father and mate. Apatow does a great job of making the Ben/Alison relationship believable, sweet and even horrifying at times. Rogan and Heigl positively make the most of their moment in the headliner spotlight. The supporting cast is excellent, including Leslie Mann as Alison’s strong-headed sister and Paul Rudd as Alison’s mellow yet hilarious brother-in-law. Great, great movie.
