Green Linnet Records: 25 Years of Celtic Music

If any American record label deserves to release two discs worth of retrospective self-congratulation, it’s Green Linnet. The scrappy Connecticut-based indie has done more to keep Celtic music alive and thriving in the United States than any other (though Shanachie has also made important contributions in that regard), and the quality of its output has been consistently high in terms of content, packaging and variety. Any American citizen familiar with names like Martin Hayes, Niamh Parsons, the Tannahill Weavers and June Tabor probably has Green Linnet to thank for it. And any who aren’t familiar with those names can start right here, with this fine budget-priced two-disc overview of the label’s catalog.
