Fact off

The Sparks Nugget sent out a large (6-by-9-inch) “Neighborhood impact advisement” postcard to Sparks residents in advance of the Rib Cook-Off. Three times—twice on the front, once on the back—it gave the date of that impact as Aug. 29 to Sept 3.

Those are the dates of the Cook-Off. Only those who closely read the text on the back noticed that the impact was actually defined—just once—as “2 p.m. Friday, August 24 through 4 p.m. Tuesday, September 4.” In other words, this six-day event closes the downtown for 11 days. Vendors claim they need four days to get set up.
