On Nov. 5, the Western Nevada College Specialty Crop Institute will host a course on direct marketing for small farms. With increased demand for local food and the challenges of today’s industrial food system, more small farms are choosing direct marketing to sell their products. Organizers say that participants will learn how to gain a loyal following and how to maximize sales. Speakers include Vance Corum, a direct marketing specialist from Farmers’ Market America, and Johnathan Wright, food and drink editor for the Reno Gazette-Journal and RENO magazine. 9 a.m.-4:30 p.m. $45 (includes lunch). Registration required, limited enrollment. To register or learn more, visit www.wnc.edu/sci.
