Santigold performs Friday, May 22, 7 p.m.; $20-$25; all ages. Empire, 1417 R Street.

Ah, Santigold. (Or is it Santogold?) Whatever … I love her. Her self-described new wave/dub/psychobilly sounds make me crave more all the time, even when I’m 1) on the treadmill, 2) on the dance floor (i.e., my kitchen) or 3) in my car. I dream of Santi White and her bizarre brilliance when I sleep, insisting that this love affair is a two-way street—because it is, right? And though her band members change as often as I change my sheets, I can always count on her unique genre-mixing, pop-shattering beats and candid lyrics: “Go ahead, I’ll be your junkie / I’ll be deplete, you can heap all rubbish here.” Yeah. I’m glad you’re gigging in Sac, because now I can continue to try to categorize you and fail miserably, then walk away swooning and feeling like I just made out with my first boyfriend.
