Triumph of the Willamette

Three separate guys, collectively known as Minmae.

Three separate guys, collectively known as Minmae.

We’re always suckers for the kind of fluid guitar-driven student chin-scratcher pontifications that emanate from rural Valley shacks (see Pavement and Grandaddy). Portland trio Minmae may not have a Valley pedigree, but it certainly has the sound down. Put Minmae on a bill with Devil in the Woods label mate Frank Jordan (in this humble scribe’s opinion, the finest rock band to emerge from this town in years) and local band the Dining Room Romance, as you’ll find this Friday, June 11, at the Capitol Garage, 1427 L Street, and you’ve got an excellent show. (Call club for time and cover.) And if Latin-flavored rock-funk-ska-R&B is more your cuppa, San Francisco multi-hyphenate sextet Los Mocosos will play Jose Rizal Community Center, at 7320 Florin Mall Drive, on Friday, June 11, at 8:15 p.m. The cover charge is $20.
