Fri., May 24, James Cavern

Cesar Chavez Plaza, 5 p.m., no cover

James Cavern's EP is appropriately titled The Pilot. This transplanted Englishman has piloted his career from his first encounter with a trombone to a 2012 Sammie award in the R&B/Soul category. A songwriter and guitarist, Cavern is inspired by artists such as the Beatles, Bob Dylan and Jimi Hendrix, citing Ray Charles as his primary inspiration. Studying in England meant taking a music class in school every year, and that study has certainly paid off for Cavern, who was also nominated for a 2012 RAWards Indie Arts Award. Joining Cavern for the next Concerts in the Park show are Iconoclast Robot, DLRN, Heartworm and DJ Nate D. 910 I Street, www.facebook.com/jamescavernmusic.
