For years, Bogle Vineyards has been the only winery in the Sacramento River Delta where one could actually visit a tasting room. That situation looks to be changing. The old brick sugar mill in Clarksburg might become home to several micro-wineries, and recently opened a tasting room just three miles south of Freeport. Scribner Bend produces pinot grigio, viognier and chardonnay, all from estate grapes. The whites are cool and crisp, unmolested by heavy oak, and would be bracing company at a riverside picnic. We found the prices equally refreshing, with the per-bottle cost (including merlot and syrah) ranging from $9.95 to $12.95. The tasting room is open Friday through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Come on over, taste the wines and enjoy the Delta, because it looks like others will be discovering this wine region soon. 9051 River Road, (916) 744-1803, www.scribnerbend.com.
