Food Stuff

Fanny Ann’s Saloon may not be the best place to be in an earthquake, with its five floors of clutter leaning from the walls and dangling from the ceilings. But it is the place to go for a great burger and an icy bottle of Bud whenever the earth isn’t shaking. Place your order at the window at the far end of the bar and then sit back and admire the 30-year accumulation of wagon wheels, license plates, hardcover books, toys and other old stuff that is the saloon’s contribution to interior design. “Boggles the mind, gratifies the senses” is the motto that general manager Mac McCulloch has bestowed upon the place. Beware of the confusing bathroom signs, which may lead you to an embarrassing or humorous encounter with the opposite gender. Fanny Ann’s has sister locations in Chico and Carson City, under different names but with the same seismically challenged decor. Go to 1023 2nd Street or call 441-0505.
