The demolition of the Palms Playhouse barn in Davis is the darkest cloud to hit our cultural world since Sam’s Hof Brau departed Midtown. Fortunately, the Palms has a distinctive new home in Winters’ historic Opera House, right across the street from the Buckhorn Steak and Roadhouse. Drop into the Buckhorn before or after the show (hint: reservations would be smart) for one of the best darn steaks anywhere. The broiler takes dry-aged certified Angus beef, cuts and trims the steaks in-house and sears the beautiful cuts under a kiln-hot infrared broiler. Try the Taylor cut, a top sirloin wrapped in apple-wood-smoked bacon. The salad and side vegetables are nothing special; they only serve to keep the mind riveted on the beef. Yes, it is sad that the Palms barn is no more, but, as they say, every dark cloud has a silver lining. 2 Main St., Winters, (530) 795-4503, www.buckhornsteakhouse.com
