Ever so crittery

Sweet and innocent and pleasantly weird. May Izumi’s ceramic and mixed-media sculptures of hybrid critters have an aesthetically duplicitous nature: They look approachable with round eyes and disarming smiles, but simultaneously are often murky-hued, a bit macabre and, at times, “stitched” together. And the creatures, appearing very much influenced by the animated characters from any Tim Burton classic, all seem to have a tale to tell, whether they have tails or not.
