Peace pipes

Do you like smart musical guys who can do amazing things with their organs? In 1995, the original work The Words of Albert Schweitzer and the Music of Bach by Thurston Moore (not the Thurston More of Sonic Youth fame) premiered in Nashville, Tenn., and now it comes to Reno. It is a 90-minute multimedia production featuring the live organist Gail Archer performing seven Bach selections while 160 slides are shown and the words of Schweitzer are recited. Schweitzer and Bach are appropriately brought together being that Schweitzer was a musicologist and biographer of Bach, not to mention that he had doctorates in theology, philosophy, medicine and a Nobel Peace Prize under his belt. The performance will be held at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 200 Island Ave., overlooking the Truckee River, at 7:30 p.m. on Oct. 25. Tickets are $10 general admission and $8 for seniors and students. Call 784-6847 for tickets and information.
