Reno Gazette-Journal photographer Marilyn Newton, right, who joined the newspaper on Aug. 3, 1963, is its third-longest-tenured employee and its longest-tenured journalist. Last month, she received one of the highest national awards of the National Federation of Press Women but was unable to attend the group’s convention in Seattle, so Nevada Press Women held a ceremony for her last week at Sierra Nevada Community Access Television. The award—and several additional awards Newton received—was presented to her by NPW president Shayne Del Cohen. Newton’s book Alkalai Angels can be seen in the foreground.
