Music notes
Some 101 bands played at the Vans Warped Tour July 8 at Sleep Train Amphitheater in Marysville, Calif. For years the tour stopped at Boreal ski resort, which made it an easy drive for Renoites, but plenty of Reno music lovers still turned out. Warped Tour staples Bad Religion, NoFx and Flogging Molly played along with newcomers Story Of The Year, Yellowcard and The Sounds. (All three newcomer bands have played in Reno in recent months.) Each band was given a 30-minute set, and they gave it their all. One of the highlights of the show was when The Sounds’ nordic beauty Maja sensually manipulated her microphone and dared the audience to have sex with her; and show-closer Story Of The Year’s members’ synchronized jump from their amps on their last song was an explosive ending to a hot day.
