Adaptation

Rated 5.0 In a movie bound to dent your skull, Nicolas Cage plays Charlie and Donald Kaufman, twin brothers writing very different screenplays. Directed by Spike Jonze, Adaptation is based on the real life struggles of Charlie Kaufman to adapt a book about orchids into a major motion picture. While this is a fact, much of the film is not to be taken seriously. There is no Donald Kaufman (who gets a screenwriting credit) and author Susan Orlean (played by Meryl Streep) didn’t snort ground-up orchids. Funny and confusing, it’s one of 2002’s more original films. Spike Jonze is a genius.
