Tenor Gladness Band

Tenor Gladness Band

Take a handful of kick-ass Chico players, put them together and have them record a CD, and it’s sure to kick some serious booty. That’s exactly what’s going on with the Tenor Gladness Band. Local jazz heavyweights Charles Haynes on tenor sax and clarinet, Mike Newman also on tenor sax, Charlie Robinson on guitar, Greg D’Augelli on bass and Lew Langworthy on drums have gotten together to produce a CD to blow your socks off. Haynes has written all the tunes but one. His “Spike’s Blues” has a great catchy melody that the band has a lot of fun with. Listening to sax masters Haynes and Newman play off of each other, and play harmony lines together throughout the album, is a real treat. And, even though the album is focusing on the tenor sax, I have to say that Haynes’ clarinet playing on “Dear John C.” is absolutely killer!
