Shootings mar holiday celebration

Police investigate apparent gang-related attack

Detectives from the Chico Police Department are seeking information about what appears to be a gang-related shooting that took place on Thanksgiving Day.

Javier Delgado, a 36-year-old Chico resident, was shot in the middle of the afternoon. According to CPD reports, he’d been celebrating the day with friends and family outside his home near the 700 block of Humboldt Avenue.

Witnesses told officers that gang slurs were exchanged between some of the guests and a group of passersby. Minutes later, Delgado was struck multiple times by gunfire from a handgun. Two or three young men were subsequently seen running away.

Delgado was treated for his injuries, which were not life-threatening, at Enloe Medical Center. Anyone with further info about the incident is asked to call CPD at 897-5820.

Meanwhile, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a separate shooting in a quiet west Chico neighborhood that took place on Saturday (Nov. 27). In this case, Chicoan David Dorsey survived a shotgun blast to his back as returned to his home on Morninghome Court.
