Butte County names new assessor

It’s a role Fred Holland is comfortable with

Fred Holland has been assistant assessor for the past 2 1/2 years—and celebrated his 22nd anniversary working in the office on Aug. 1—so sliding over into the assessor’s chair has been an easy transition, even if he’s held the new title for only a day.

Tuesday (Aug. 4), the Board of Supervisors voted 4-1 to appoint Holland (pictured) to fill the position through the end of the term vacated early by Ken Reimers. The term ends in January 2011.

“We can now go further with some changes I’ve been wanting to make,” said Holland, who was chosen out of 15 candidates. “And we’ll continue to work smarter and harder for the public.”

The office is operating under budget constraints, and Holland seemed optimistic that with a new property-tax computer system going online soon and a lot of dedicated employees, they’ll be able to “continue to be an accurate source of assessment information.”
