Eight Gigs: The Sheepdogs

Sun., Oct. 5, 8 p.m.,The Boardwalk, $15

Back in 2011, Canadian rock band the Sheepdogs made history by being the first-ever unsigned band to grace the cover of Rolling Stone. Four years later they're on tour in support of their latest album Future Nostalgia, an apt name for a sound that harkens sharply back to 1970s classic rock acts like Lynard Skynard and the Allman Brothers Band. The first single, “Take a Trip,” is a nearly perfect intersection of Led Zeppelin à la “Hey Hey What Can I Do” and The Black Keys (which makes sense, considering the band was formerly produced by Black Keys drummer Patrick Carney). 9426 Greenback Lane in Orangevale, www.thesheepdogs.com.
